Life is short. Eat dessert first!

Whether I'm creating specialty cupcakes for a baby shower, making hundreds of mini desserts for a Yelp event, or simply baking some cookies for friends - I absoloutely adore desserts!  Sugar? Yes! Flour? Oh yeh! Chocolate? Gimme, gimme!

Pastries Not Potatoes is not only a blog, but my tiny little dessert only catering company as well.  I've been in the food business for more than ten years and I can't think of anything better than to share my love of food with not only Chicago, but the world!

    Inked and Edible.

It's been an interesting few weeks for PNP...good things are happening, orders are coming in from people other than my friends (which, don't get me wrong - I love that, but it's nice getting strangers wanting my food!) and my logo and price list are being pulled together.

So, here are a few things that I wanted to share!  This past Saturday I delivered a birthday cake to a new client at Whiskey Road.  The very small, three layer cake consisted of chocolate cake, vanilla simple syrup, chocolate ganache, chocolate mousse BGY%20Fondant%20Cake%20007.jpgand vanilla buttercream - all wrapped up in green, yellow and blue fondant.  I got a text message the following day, saying that they absolutely loved the cake and are already wanting to place an order for another one!  It was a relief at how cute the cake turned out, especially because I don't work with fondant all that often because, well - I don't think it tastes all that great! But, if you want it...I'll do it!

Later on Saturday night, I made my way over to The Chicago Tattoo Company, excited at the idea of just having just sold something officially under the Pastries Not Potatoes name; I decieded to commorate the event by getting a new tattoo.  It's been awhile since I'd had one done, and none of them really speak to my passion and my career.  So, what better than a cupcake, right??Cupcake%20Tattoo%20014.jpg I know, it doesn't even look real, but trust me - the swelling, redness, itchiness, and slight scabs beginning to form (sorry, a little gross!) all make proof positive that it's permanent!  Nick Colella did the art and he's done a few of my other tattoos in the past.  He did an amazing job, and I really just gave him free reign to do what he thought was best.

That's my two cake stories for the week...but you can only eat one!
