Life is short. Eat dessert first!

Whether I'm creating specialty cupcakes for a baby shower, making hundreds of mini desserts for a Yelp event, or simply baking some cookies for friends - I absoloutely adore desserts!  Sugar? Yes! Flour? Oh yeh! Chocolate? Gimme, gimme!

Pastries Not Potatoes is not only a blog, but my tiny little dessert only catering company as well.  I've been in the food business for more than ten years and I can't think of anything better than to share my love of food with not only Chicago, but the world!

    Let Them Eat Cake.

The holidays are a perfect time for sugar. Actually, anytime is a perfect time for sugar in my opinion! However, with the urging of friends I have slowly started to do some baking at home; creating a super-tiny little home based desserts only catering business.

It started out with a few dozen cookies here and there, and slowly began to evolve into holiday cakes, birthday cakes and corporate orders. It's been interesting going from a highly equipped industrial kitchen to my small, yet beautifully stocked home kitchen. My two most frequent clients thus far have been my good friend Adam, who is addicted to chocolate chip cookies; and Plan B, an advertising agency here in the city for which my friend Kate is an assistant. Two very different types of business, but exciting regardless! I was once told by one of my chefs from Maggianos that once you learn how to create and execute recipes on a large volume, scaling it down to smaller batches is easy. It is, I've done it - but it's not quite what I expected it to be.

Nonetheless, my guess is that after the holidays have passed the demand for my baked goods will subside. I will still be experimenting and creating new and yummy recipes from my home kitchen though, so if you've got any friends who need some cookies - send them my way.
