Desserts and Disc Jockeys
Sunday, September 23, 2007 at 07:12PM Tomorrow morning, bright and early at 5am I will be wandering around the Merchandise Mart looking for the offices of the alternative rock station Q101.1 - no, I'm not stalking a DJ and no I'm not there to release my new single...I'm hanging out with the crew of the Morning Fix as their "Traffic Babe of the Day".
I spent the afternoon at work cooking up a bunch of stuff to take with me, because usually when anyone finds out that I'm a pastry chef, the first thing they say to me is "What'd you make for me?" or something along those lines. Plus, I totally had so much fun doing it. I really enjoy working alone in the kitchen, rocking out to whatever music I want - which today happened to be a long play list from Pennywise.
So, on the menu for the gang tomorrow is as follows :
Smoked Salmon and Asparagus Frittatas with Brie and Sundried Tomatoes
Double Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Walnut Brownies
Chocolate Chip Pecan Cookies
Red Velvet Cupcakes
Banoffee Muffins

If you happen to be awake at such a ridiculous hour and can't find anything better to do with your time, you should definetely check it out!

The show on Monday morning was a success.
Aside from Alan Cox calling me a pastry slut, that is.
Many of my friends listened to it, and for those who didn't - they had the link to the on-air interview forced down their throats in a very aggressive manner.
Most told me I had the perfect radio voice, and I have to agree. For a long time I was uncomfortable with the tone of my voice. I felt it to be far too deep for a girl, sometimes feeling more like a phone sex operator than that of a 18 year old high school senior. As time passed though, and I heard my voice more and more in various recordings and such; I learned to appreciate my tenor. And my laugh. Never was I more self aware of my laugh, because the moment one was produced - it made everyone around me smile. And what could be any bigger compliment truly, than having others smile just by the sound of ones laugh?
Things here at BDP are coming right along, and I know that this season will prove to be a very busy and exciting one. We were just confirmed to do the catering for Bob Dylan while he is in town for at least three shows are the Chicago Theatre. Rick Bayless will be back in Chicago filming his PBS show "Mexico:One Plate at a Time" and this will be the second time this year that we have fed him and his crew. Usually I don't venture out to work any shows or concerts that we cater for. The few times I have been out, it's only because I've really wanted to meet the artist (James Taylor, The Foo Fighters ((Dave Grohl, especially)), Widespread Panic) - so the upcoming Kathy Griffin show is exciting to me because I think she is freakin' hilarious, and I seriously cannot wait to meet her.
So, that's my follow up. Hope all is well, and I'll be back soon!
