Life is short. Eat dessert first!

Whether I'm creating specialty cupcakes for a baby shower, making hundreds of mini desserts for a Yelp event, or simply baking some cookies for friends - I absoloutely adore desserts!  Sugar? Yes! Flour? Oh yeh! Chocolate? Gimme, gimme!

Pastries Not Potatoes is not only a blog, but my tiny little dessert only catering company as well.  I've been in the food business for more than ten years and I can't think of anything better than to share my love of food with not only Chicago, but the world!

    Inquire Within...

Yesterday my lovely, amazing, crazy talented assistant Nicole gave me her two weeks notice.

It's unfortunate for me - because she rocks and we get along so very well; but I couldn't be happier that she has found someplace to move on to where she will have more hours, make more money and have tons more responsibilty!  It's also unfortunate, because I really hate interviewing potential candidates.  Actually, it's not so much the interview itself but the weeding through of resumes and emails and applications that I get bombarded with after posting an ad on CraigsList

I wish people could understand that no matter how many times you've made Christmas cookies with your mom, or baked a pie on a Saturday just because you felt like it doesn't exactly mean you are ready to work in a busy, professional, industrial kitchen.  Especially if you've never worked in a professional kitchen or if you are thinking that it's going to be  "lots of fun!" Sure, it's great fun - but it's more hard work and stress than a day at the playground.

So, alas - the sifting begins.  Resumes responded to, phone calls made (by the way - if you're out with friends at 5pm on a Wednesday and you're drunk - don't try and schedule an interview with me...I'm not going to call you back!)  and notes taken.  I'm glad things are working out for Nicole - but my 500 Thanksgiving pies are going to get made by I alone - it's time to find some help!
